It's Over

Well boys and girls, it looks like the notebook computer I have been using for almost two and a half years straight is just about ready to die.

Today I got the VERY dreaded “Operating System Not Found” warning when I came out of a suspend. This is not good boys and girls, not good at all… it is usually the first sign of a failing hard drive. Then today, just as I finished posting m last post… my wi-fi went out. I mean it went out hard. It is a built in adaptor, so I can get a plug in card, but this is not good. So right now I am on cat5, thank god that works.

So, as I am typing this I am transferring all my data to another computer in expectation of a crash. The really worst part is all the software on this computer. I have bought most of it, but since my break up I do not have the original disks to re-install on another computer. I need to make an image of this computer and transfer EVERYTHING to a new computer.

I am going to check for virii, but I got a feeling that will not help. This does not feel viral…

And, so everyone know, I do not have the cash for a new notebook right now, this site has drained me of the fundage. [Tongue and cheek] Anyone got a brand new Sharp MV12P, MM20P or some other Ultra Portable? [/Tongue and Cheek] So I go looking and hoping that I can find anything that will suit me. (Fast, 1gig ram, 15in display, DVDrw, 802.11g, multimedia, XPpro, etc.. etc...)

I guess I am spoiled, I always bought the best I could when I could, but now… damn. All I can do is wait for the crash… it is coming....

More work this weekend

OK, I hope you have been following the development of the site… we now have 12 users and most of those are bloggers. I don’t know about you, but I am excited! Here are some recent additions:

1) MORE SMILEYS; yep, everyone seems to like these in the comments and I have to admit that they are fun. I found some real nice “bigg’uns” that I like and added them to the list of usables. Now, unlike the emoticons on other sites, I have my own tags when posting for them, so the normal one may not work like on other sites. I just have not gone to the trouble of Xreffing all the smiles and using the common keys. I will later, I just wanted to get them up.

2) The PsuedoCode for the comments is running. To get a list of them, clock on the link “Comment Codes” next to the Smiley like and it will pop open a list of active pCodes. That should make come nicer.

3) The Current Bloggers List: In the “Bloggers” page is now a list of all those who can blog on the site. Eventually I will have this linked to a search that will bring up the bloggers entries. I am going to work on that today.

4) In the control panel for bloggers: I was asked how to add color to the posts. Now while I do not have a plug-in that will do this (I may write one) I added the “Span” tag. Highlight thearea you want to color, click the span tag, change the color you want in the opening tag and it will change the color of the text. Simple and to the point… works.

5) Archive Module: on the index page is an Archive section, this will list the entries from the month listed. Again simple.

6) Hundreds of little changes that are not worth mentioning, but are there.

So, here is what I am threatening to do over the weekend:

a) Clean up the “modular” components. They are working, but they do not look all that great.

b) Clean up the style sheets. This will not change the look of the site, but it will make my job easier. I know you all want results, results, results, but this will help me to be able to deliver those results.

c) Flesh out the the secondary page: “About”, “Bloggers”, “Contact”, “Conduct”, “Stats” will all get filled out, and in that order I think.

d) Multiple Blogs will be worked on again. While I got this working, I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get it to work. I need to set up more security and a better set up scheme for this. In short, not to take this from you bloggers, I have to work it so that you can’t wreck the site. This means getting you the right access without too much access. I want you all to administer your own blog catagories, but right now if I let you into that section, you have access to all blogs and sorry I cannot let that happen, for you would have access to the main blog as well and that would be “sensitive”.

e) News Readers: I have to set up the RSS/Atom account setting so people can book mark the blog for proper feeds. Once this is done we should start seeing more people.

f) Pings: Right now I have this site in it’s own little black hole. It is there for anyone to look at but it is not telling anyone else it is here. I have not prompted it through the search engines either. Once I get to this point I am going to do that.

So, as you all can see I have my work cut out for me this weekend… lets see how far I can get in “24” hours of work.

Wow, that was wierd

As we all know or maybe some of us do not, the reason I am here and making this site is because I want to get away from the AFF bloging community and today was another reason.

I went to comment on a post and was booted from the site again, you know, the re-logon glitch they are having? ok. so I relogon and where do I end up? at http://www.pflag.org , Parents, family and friends of Lesbians and Gays.

Do they know something I do not? I wonder. Mostly I think they need to stop playing with their system “live” and set up a beta site to do their testing. What a crock… I know that I do live changes… but I am one guy and can not set up a beta, but at least I have very fast ways back to start if something goes wrong… Very unprofessional on AFFs case.

And people wonder why I am doing this…

It's Getting There

I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but the site is coming along. As far as I know there are no real eye sore pages left. I have gone through all the templates not and udated them so they are lat least “readable”. Here is a short list of the things I need to do to finish the site for “Public” comsumption:

1) Finish the side bar and modules (embedded templates)
2) Work up and optumise the CSS
3) Get the Multi-blog system working…
4) New index page, but stage that on the “Bloggers” page
5) Bloggers List
6) More Emoticons

So there is the short list. But I think I will work on this tomorrow, I am done for the night.

Interesting Phenomenon

So, now Miasma of Musings is starting to get some lookers… and out little community is starting to come together. But interestingly enough I have noticed that everyone has retained their AFF handles. I realise I have too, but then again I have been using this handle for years simply because it is very rare for someone else to claim it (but I have seen this happen. Yes there is another HarshawJ out there.)

But I think many of us have the “name+number” because that handle was used by someone else. Was that they handle you really wanted? You know, there are only 9 people on this site right now, you want a new handle? I doubt that it is taken… and I doubt that it will be stepped on for a long while.

I was just wondering, I think I will change mine to “Jubal Harshaw” and be done with it. Yeah, I like that.

First Software Update

I have not even gotten this site public yet and there has already been one software update. For those who do not know I am running Expression Engine by pMachine. The current version is 1.3.1 upgraded from 1.3. While not appearent to the members, the bloggers on this site will notice that the spell checking has been greatly improved (from nothing before to actually working) and the member hadling has been streamlined.

If you have comments or questions about the software I will be happy to entertain anything I know about. Comment here.

Blue Pill Follow Up

I know that there are other medications on the market for ED (Erectile Dysfunction) and I will say that I have tried them all since I found that they work for me. But let me tell you my experiences with them.

Viagra

I have by far had the best experience with Viagra in terms of getting everything to work right. I have the fewest side effects with Viagra, and in terms of performance, it does the best job for me. I find that having to take the med about an hour before having sex is not an issue, if I have it with dinner and the dinner is not too greasy then I never have a problem at all (greasy food will slow the absorption of the medication) and few side effects. (I get a bit of a stuffy nose.)

Cialis

By far the strongest of the three popular drugs, this one is too strong for me even in a cut dosage. I get stuffy noses, flushing and nervousness with this medication, and if Viagra does not work for you, you may want to try it. Like I said, for me it is just too much, but it does work fast!

Levitra

The mildest of the three. This also gives me a stuffy nose and a bit of flushing, but overall the effects are not worth the side effects and the main effect is not as strong, for me. The makers claim it is a 36 hour pill, I do not see that. I think that if Viagra is too strong, you may want to try this one.

These are my opinions and I am not a doctor. Take this information for what it is, a personal opinion and personal experiences.
