New and Improved
Here is a quick update on what I have been up to on the site:
1) RSS 1.0/2.0 & Atom Syndications feeds are now working
2) I have posted Miasma of Musings on several blog listings
3) I have turned on PINGing to several Blog aggrigators, we wil now be getting more exposure.
4) The look and feel of the site and sidebars is closer to what I wanted
5) XML on the main page is validated, making it easier for search engines to catalog
6) CSS still needs more work.
7) In the stats page, online members are now shown through their icon. I think this is cool, but I will have to limit it later, but that is not hard.
8) People who have not uploaded or chosen an avatar get a nice “?” smiley.
9) Top Right Login area is looking better
10) the Referrers page is updated with this site look and feel.
Very Important: I need to set up an email remailer so that email address do not get spammed. I will work on that first thing.
Oh, there is so much more to do, but it is coming along and you are all here for the ride. I would love to get even more bloggers going, so if you know anyone, direct the here and lets get them blogging.
On a philosophical note: Seeing as how my cash situation has become “tight” I am going to work a licence with pMachine and turn this commercial. My plan is that the first 25 bloggers will be grandfathered in for life at no charge, but people after that could pay $10 a month or $100 a year for the priviledge of blogging with all these fine bloggers. For this they will get the tech support of me and their own look and feel for their blog. For additional funds they may want me to build them custom templates.
Besides all that.... things are coming along really well, I have just the content pages to do, and once that is done, I will really promote the site, although I may start dooing that right now.
So there you have it… I have not been idle, just doing things that may not be immediately visible.

Gasoline Conspiracy
So, how do you all like the gas prices lately? Some parts of the country are starting to (or have broken) the $3.00 a gallon barrier. I do not know about you, but the price for gas has certainly made me think twice about doing any traveling now. Hell it is costing me $50.00 to fill up my tank, and I do not have that large of a tank.
Now there are report of violence at the pumps, people shooting or stabbing station owners over the price of a full tank. It is predicted that this type of violence is only going to continue, and all over the price of a tank of gas.
But why is this happening. We can point to the fact that crude oil has reached a record high, but is that really all there is to it? And here is all that oil from Iraq that we went to war for? Is there really a shortage of crude or is OPEC just being greedy. If OPEC is being greedy, then there is something we have to do to “encourage” them to lower prices. But I do not think there is a real shortage. After all, no one has been turned away from the pump because they (the filling stations) were out of gas, or that oil tanks have not been filled. Are there tankers out there just sittingaround? I doubt it. So what’s up?
First, the price of gas has been held artificially low for the US over the years, and if you look at what other people pay in other countries, we are still low per gallon. I think that thisartificial cost fixing has been quietly lifted. This could explain a lot and will level off when we reach the global average price. Beside, when thepetroleum companies are still making record profit (by these commodities) I think they could indeed lay off the price hitches.
Second, and maybe more important, I think we are being prepared. I think we are being prepared for alternative fuels and alternative technologies. I think that (and again quietly) the government has encouraged the price hitches and is now in the act of forcing new technologies on the unwitting public. Not that I am against alternate fuels or technology. I have long wanted my hydrogen fuel cell car so I can wear it out, then take the engine and stick it in my garage and run my household energy requirements off it.
So, I think that the government (them) are behind this. We still have oil, we have not gone into the reserves, the gas is still flowing, we have potential for a lot more from Iraq, car are getting bettermileage than ever, news articles are starting to hint more often at “alternative fuels”, major companies are very close to mass production of alternative fuel cars, and technologies are proceeding at unprecedented pace. So, get the public “wanting” alternative fuels, give OPEC a last hurrah to make them happy, introduce the new cars slowly and make the alternative fuels REALLY cheap, and in ten years, we will make the transition to new fuels sooner rather than later.
Conspiracy? Maybe, but at least it is a “White” conspiracy, it means well. I just wish “they” would do it to us cheaper per gallon.

When it rains...
it certainly does pour. So, I have a shortage of funds, my computer is about to take a dump, and what would make it worse… “We do not feel you fit in with the team” at work, and thus, well… Anyone looking for a web programmer? Here are some highlight from my career…
• Sat on the Internet Engineer Taskforce, HTML specs committee.
• One of the first to implement multi-lingual website design.
• Created real-time, targeted ad insertion into streaming media.
• Founding member of WebRadio.com.
• Managed the development the streaming protocol used on G3 & G3.5 cell phones (Java Software written for the Intel/Embaze chip codename Armstrong)
• Created internet data-mining sites, managed 250 million tracking data streams daily.
And of course you are looking at my current project.
Have you ever noticed that bad things (and only occassionally good things) seem to happen in threes? In my case, I usually catch thre sets of threes, so I guess I have a bit more to go until I can get things together. Interestingly, I can see what three more may be, and I just hope my Karnak is way off.

It's Over
Well boys and girls, it looks like the notebook computer I have been using for almost two and a half years straight is just about ready to die.
Today I got the VERY dreaded “Operating System Not Found” warning when I came out of a suspend. This is not good boys and girls, not good at all… it is usually the first sign of a failing hard drive. Then today, just as I finished posting m last post… my wi-fi went out. I mean it went out hard. It is a built in adaptor, so I can get a plug in card, but this is not good. So right now I am on cat5, thank god that works.
So, as I am typing this I am transferring all my data to another computer in expectation of a crash. The really worst part is all the software on this computer. I have bought most of it, but since my break up I do not have the original disks to re-install on another computer. I need to make an image of this computer and transfer EVERYTHING to a new computer.
I am going to check for virii, but I got a feeling that will not help. This does not feel viral…
And, so everyone know, I do not have the cash for a new notebook right now, this site has drained me of the fundage. [Tongue and cheek] Anyone got a brand new Sharp MV12P, MM20P or some other Ultra Portable? [/Tongue and Cheek] So I go looking and hoping that I can find anything that will suit me. (Fast, 1gig ram, 15in display, DVDrw, 802.11g, multimedia, XPpro, etc.. etc...)
I guess I am spoiled, I always bought the best I could when I could, but now… damn. All I can do is wait for the crash… it is coming....

More work this weekend
OK, I hope you have been following the development of the site… we now have 12 users and most of those are bloggers. I don’t know about you, but I am excited! Here are some recent additions:
1) MORE SMILEYS; yep, everyone seems to like these in the comments and I have to admit that they are fun. I found some real nice “bigg’uns” that I like and added them to the list of usables. Now, unlike the emoticons on other sites, I have my own tags when posting for them, so the normal one may not work like on other sites. I just have not gone to the trouble of Xreffing all the smiles and using the common keys. I will later, I just wanted to get them up.
2) The PsuedoCode for the comments is running. To get a list of them, clock on the link “Comment Codes” next to the Smiley like and it will pop open a list of active pCodes. That should make come nicer.
3) The Current Bloggers List: In the “Bloggers” page is now a list of all those who can blog on the site. Eventually I will have this linked to a search that will bring up the bloggers entries. I am going to work on that today.
4) In the control panel for bloggers: I was asked how to add color to the posts. Now while I do not have a plug-in that will do this (I may write one) I added the “Span” tag. Highlight thearea you want to color, click the span tag, change the color you want in the opening tag and it will change the color of the text. Simple and to the point… works.
5) Archive Module: on the index page is an Archive section, this will list the entries from the month listed. Again simple.
6) Hundreds of little changes that are not worth mentioning, but are there.
So, here is what I am threatening to do over the weekend:
a) Clean up the “modular” components. They are working, but they do not look all that great.
b) Clean up the style sheets. This will not change the look of the site, but it will make my job easier. I know you all want results, results, results, but this will help me to be able to deliver those results.
c) Flesh out the the secondary page: “About”, “Bloggers”, “Contact”, “Conduct”, “Stats” will all get filled out, and in that order I think.
d) Multiple Blogs will be worked on again. While I got this working, I had to jump through a lot of hoops to get it to work. I need to set up more security and a better set up scheme for this. In short, not to take this from you bloggers, I have to work it so that you can’t wreck the site. This means getting you the right access without too much access. I want you all to administer your own blog catagories, but right now if I let you into that section, you have access to all blogs and sorry I cannot let that happen, for you would have access to the main blog as well and that would be “sensitive”.
e) News Readers: I have to set up the RSS/Atom account setting so people can book mark the blog for proper feeds. Once this is done we should start seeing more people.
f) Pings: Right now I have this site in it’s own little black hole. It is there for anyone to look at but it is not telling anyone else it is here. I have not prompted it through the search engines either. Once I get to this point I am going to do that.
So, as you all can see I have my work cut out for me this weekend… lets see how far I can get in “24” hours of work.

Wow, that was wierd
As we all know or maybe some of us do not, the reason I am here and making this site is because I want to get away from the AFF bloging community and today was another reason.
I went to comment on a post and was booted from the site again, you know, the re-logon glitch they are having? ok. so I relogon and where do I end up? at http://www.pflag.org , Parents, family and friends of Lesbians and Gays.
Do they know something I do not? I wonder. Mostly I think they need to stop playing with their system “live” and set up a beta site to do their testing. What a crock… I know that I do live changes… but I am one guy and can not set up a beta, but at least I have very fast ways back to start if something goes wrong… Very unprofessional on AFFs case.
And people wonder why I am doing this…
