Getting My Tunes Back
It is a sad story, but about a year ago my whole DVD and CD collection was stolen. Now you may say “that is sad, but you can live without media collection, you’ll get over it.” Indeed you are correct, you can live without them, but you know what, I did not know how much I missed them until they were gone.
For me, movies and music are a huge part of who I am. I know that sounds kind of trite, but it is true. I take a lot of joy from movies and music, and when they are not in my life, I really do miss them and don’t feel complete.
Last night I got one of my favorite CD back… Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s “BBVD” album. I put it in my computer, ripped it first thing, and am listening to it even while I write this entry. There is so much energy on this album that I had forgotten what it does for me. Namely, it lifts my spirits and really gets me motivated. Also, a sentimental reason, it is the first album that me and my daughter agree is just great stuff. It marked her first appreciation of music other than the typical stuff that is playing on the top ten stations. It makes me proud that she can choose her own taste in music and that I was part of that growth in her. This is really good stuff.
I have also been adding back to my classical collection, although with limited success. Would you believe in a town the size of Las Vegas there are no record stores that have a decent selection of classical. Sure, there is a tower records that has all the popular stuff, even Barnes and Noble has a selection, but it is all the popular stuff that you would expect. But even so, the selection of Beethoven, Mozart, and other is really lousy. Don’t even ask for Albinonie or Telemann, they don’t even know who they are.
So the search goes on to replace the 4000 CDs and 1200 DVDs, it’s a start…
