My deceased husband was a HUGE fan of Manhattan Transfer...funny that you mentioned that. I listened to the Star Spangled Banner song you linked to, and - you are so right! - they have an awesome sound. I have heard of "Toxic Audio" before but never was able to match up their sound to the name.

Thanks for sharing that with us...

Refreshing to hear newer to me sounds...

A capella Vocals do not get much credit these days it seems. But when it happens people seem to love it. What is one of the Eagles Best? "Seven Bridges Road" and then there was Bo Bice on American Idol. His A capella song blew everyone away. It is beyond me why people do not listen to more A capella work. The voice ws the first instrument and to my ear the best so far. It take just as much, if not more craft to sing well as to play well.

OK, personal opinion... I think people do not know what to listen for in a good vocal performance. If they did they would realize that there are very few good vocal performers out there. Maybe then they would realize how hard certain genres of music really are.

Good singers are hard to find... really hard to find.

This is soooo very true. I think the whole buzz behind the American Idol is waking more people up to the fact that there are a lot more bad singers than there are great singers; and, when we have opportunities to hear really great singers, we will certainly be amazed and awe struck.

I wish the American Idol would take a theme, such as Acappela and bring out a greater awareness of the art.

Here is a secret I will reveal to the people here...

This nice white, jewish boy, used to go to the First AME Church in Watts Los Angeles on Sunday mornings just to here their Gospel Choir. I used to sneak in and sit in the back, and when the services were over, Reverend Marcus would come over and invite me to sing with them. Wow, what a thing. All the voices, singing some of the most uplifting music, it did not matter whether I believed as they did, it was the music... and wow what music.

Yep, I'd hear at the end of the service ... "Da White Boy dun come to sing..." and we did, boy did we ever... it was great. I love Gospel, go figure.

I have gone to the gospel churches to at times. As long as you get into one that is truly an open arms environment, it can be one hell-acious time in the vibes and emotions, inspirations, etc.

Certainly a good place to go when you need an uplifting moment!!! cheese
